About the company

25 years in the sky

A path that began in an Astana model-aircraft workshop now runs through composite airframes, in-house avionics and international aviation programmes.

QAZDRON is a Kazakhstani manufacturer of in-house designed unmanned aerial systems, with its office and production base in Astana. We deliver an end-to-end solution for a wide range of civil and industrial tasks — from the initial design concept through to production and field operation of the finished system.

The team brings together specialists with deep experience in model aviation, mechanical design, programming and related technical fields. That experience produced the concept behind the Tengri Pro series: a flying complex built on composite technology around an electric powerplant.

Our mission

Our mission is to give our clients the most cost-effective access to information, using high-technology airborne systems.

The story

What the name and the mark mean

Unmanned Aerial Systems

QAZ

“Qazaq”, “Qazaqstan” — the origin of both the product and the engineering school behind it. Every platform is designed and assembled in Astana.

DRON

The unmanned vehicle — though for us the word means the complete system: airframe, autopilot, ground station and payload.

The mark

The “A” in the wordmark is at once a wing profile and the outline of a shanyraq, carrying the “qoshqar müyiz” (ram’s horns) ornament. The plum-to-indigo gradient stands for flight between dawn and the night sky.

Tengri

“Tengri” is the Eternal Blue Sky of the Turkic world. Our fixed-wing platforms carry that name: their working space reaches four kilometres above the steppe.

Timeline

A quarter of a century

  1. 1999

    The model-aircraft workshop

The core of the future team came together in an Astana model-aircraft club: hand-built gliders, first wings of wood and fabric, first notebooks of aerodynamic calculations.

  2. 2013

    The move to composites

The team moved to mould-based composite manufacturing — carbon- and glass-fibre wings cured in tooling built in-house. This is where the concept of a light, rigid airframe took shape.

  3. 2017

    QAZDRON is founded

On 4 January the partnership was registered with the Astana Department of Justice. A hobby became a company with a design bureau and a production floor.

  4. 2019

    Resident of Nazarbayev University Technopark

By decision of the selection committee of 2 August, the company received resident status at the Nazarbayev University Technopark, which opened up the university’s laboratories and engineering community.

  5. 2020

    The Tengri Pro 2.0 series

The 2,000 mm flying wing entered serial production: catapult launch, parachute recovery, two and a half hours aloft.

  6. 2021

Orion 160S and the ground-penetrating radar

A 20 kg multirotor platform and, built on it, the COBRA Plug-in ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system — a flying laboratory for subsurface survey.

  7. 2022

    Partnership with agricultural science

Joint work began with S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University: NDVI monitoring, field-survey methodologies and hands-on student practice.

  8. 2023

    Partnership with Magnus Aircraft

The company became an official partner of Hungary’s Magnus Aircraft Corporation, working on the large-assembly localisation of the Fusion 212 and 213 light aircraft in Kazakhstan.

  9. 2024

    Our own autopilot

Together with a Belarusian partner, the company began development work on an unmanned conversion of the Fusion 212: a jointly produced autopilot designed and integrated into the light aircraft.
